Spirited Away (A Japanese animated film)
"Spirited Away" is a feature-length animated movie of Studio Ghibli directed by Hayao Miyazaki, released in 2001.
I have watched "Spirited Away" many times since I was a kid.
It is one of the favorite movies that I have seen.
I will post about the best favorite movie next week.
Story summary:
Chihiro and her parents have moved to a small Japanese town in the countryside. On the way to the new house, Chihiro's father turns in the wrong direction and runs on a lonely single-lane road with a dead-end in front of the tunnel. Her parents decided to stop the car and explore the surroundings. They pass through the tunnel and find an abandoned amusement park with a small town on the other side. Her parents decide to eat and pay later if they see a restaurant with odorous food but no staff. However, Chihiro refuses to eat and decides to explore the theme park a little more. She meets a boy named Haku, tells Chihiro, and her parents are in danger and must leave immediately. She runs to a restaurant and learns that her parents have become pigs. Also, the theme park turns out to be a town inhabited by demons, spirits, and evil gods. In the center of the town, there is a bath where these creatures can relax. The bath owner is an evil witch, Yubaba, who is trying to captivate all intruders, including Chihiro. Chihiro must rely on Haku to save her parents' lives.
Consideration of a character "No-Face (Kaonashi)":
The main difference between No-Face and other characters is that he cannot speak words. The only way to speak a language is to swallow someone else and borrow that voice.
No-Face is considered a character that has no ego. In this world where words have great power, No-Face cannot speak only by himself, which means that he does not have his own words, that is, has no will.

Hi Naoki,
返信削除I am full Japanese and grew up watching Hayao Miyazaki films, anime, reading manga and this brings back so many memories for me. Out of all of Hayao Miyazaki films this and Howl's Moving Castle are my favorite. I love the story lines, characters, and the themes of the stories. I can't wait to see what else you review :)
Hi Naoki,
返信削除I'm born and raised in Hawaii, but from a young age my mom would always show me many Japanese movies. Out of all of them the Hayao Miyazaki films are my childhood memories. From Totoro to Howls moving Castle. I could say I watched all of the movies. Since I love music, the BGM always caught my attention which also was a big impression on these films. I can't wait to see what else you will be introducing to us!
